Teen Counselling

What is Teen Counselling?

Aluma Counselling is pleased to offer teen counselling services to provide a safe, supportive space where young people can talk about their challenges. We support teens to develop healthy coping strategies and build skills to navigate life’s ups and downs. We work with teens who are ready to take the first step toward feeling better. Teen counselling requires consent of both parents.

At Aluma Counselling, we believe you are one of the most important supports in your teen’s life, therefore when teens consent, it is important to us that parents are also willing to be involved in the counselling process when appropriate.

A wooden side table with a orange bowl and tissue box is beside the couch. A textured rug with a diamond pattern covers the floor. Wicker shelves with books and a white dehumidifier are against the wall. Artwork including a landscape painting and a floral painting adorn the walls. A small nook with a clock and wire sculpture is above the door frame.

How Does It Work?

Counselling begins with a conversation to understand what's going on in your teen's life and what they hope to work on. For this first conversation, we offer a flexible approach, teens can attend this independently or with a parent depending on their comfort level. When teens are ready to begin counselling, we will set up sessions to help them explore their feelings, improve their mental health, and develop the tools they need to thrive. We provide a combination of one-on-one therapy and, when appropriate, parent support.

What Can It Help With?

Teen counselling can help with a variety of issues, including:

Disordered eating

Self-esteem and confidence

Family or school struggles

Anxiety and stress

Depression and sadness

Relationship difficulties

Social pressures and identity

Coping with big life changes

Neurodiversity burn out

What Change Can Clients Expect?

Teens who engage in counselling often feel more confident, less overwhelmed, and better able to cope with life's challenges. They often develop deeper reflective skills and may experience improvements in their mood, relationships, and overall mental well-being. Over time, they can develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their emotions, leading to positive, lasting change. Teens can expect to have a safe and private space to talk with a caring and experienced counsellor who will listen without judgment.

How We're Different

At our practice, we specialize in helping teens because we understand the unique challenges they face. Aluma therapists are trained to connect with young people in a way that’s engaging, non-judgmental, and supportive.

We believe in working closely with both teens and parents to ensure the best possible outcome, always respecting your teen’s voice and feelings. We also offer a variety of modalities because we do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach – our support is customized to the needs of each unique teen.
